Where to Buy Bac Water
Bac water (bacteriostatic water) is sold in three places: pharmacies, online marketplaces and specialist suppliers that ship it direct. Which one suits you depends on whether you have a prescription, how much you need and how soon you need it.
- Pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and local pharmacies) dispense it against a prescription. It is not an over-the-counter shelf item.
- Marketplaces. Amazon does not list bacteriostatic water (checked 8 October 2026), and walmart.com results mix in humidifier “bacteriostatic water treatment”, which is a different product. See the Amazon and Walmart guides.
- Specialist suppliers such as Direct Bac Water stock it in several vial sizes and packs, and ship it from US stock.
Can you buy bac water at a pharmacy?
Yes, with a prescription. The FDA-listed bacteriostatic water products carry “Rx only” on the label, so a pharmacy supplies them the way it supplies any other prescription item: the pharmacist fills the order, often from stock ordered in for you. That is why searching a pharmacy’s shelves, or its website, usually turns up nothing.
Price-comparison sites put the average retail cash price of a 30 mL vial at $23.76 (GoodRx) and $28.79 (Rx.com), with published guides quoting up to about $35 (checked 8 October 2026). Each pharmacy has its own guide: CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and prescription rules.
Bac water near me
A “bac water near me” search mostly returns local pharmacies, for the reason above: they can order it, but they dispense it on prescription. Delivery apps such as DoorDash list pharmacy bacteriostatic water in some areas, filled by the pharmacy behind the listing, so the same rules apply.
If your nearest option means waiting for the pharmacy to order stock in, an online order can arrive just as quickly. Direct Bac Water ships orders placed before 1 pm Eastern on a business day the same day (more in bac water near me):
| Shipping | Transit after dispatch | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (UPS or USPS) | 2 to 5 business days | $12.99, free on orders over $200 |
| UPS 2nd Day Air | 2 business days | $25.99 |
| UPS Next Day Air | 1 business day | $52.99 |
Buying bac water online
Buying online gives you the choice of vial size and pack, and multi-packs cost less per vial. Whoever you buy from, check the listing and then the label for the same few things:
- The formula. Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol (9 mg per mL) as the preservative. A product without the benzyl alcohol is sterile water, which is a different, single-use product.
- A multiple-dose vial. The preservative is what allows repeated withdrawals from one vial, so bac water comes in multiple-dose vials with a flip-off cap over a rubber stopper and a metal crimp.
- An intact seal. The flip-off cap should be in place and the crimp undamaged when it arrives.
- The warnings and dates on the label. Labels state “NOT FOR USE IN NEONATES”, because benzyl alcohol is not used in newborns, and carry a lot number and an expiry date.
- Where it ships from. A US address and a stated dispatch time tell you how long you will actually wait.
Which size to buy
Every size has the same formula; only the volume and the price per mL change.
| Size | Suits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 3 mL vial | Small, occasional use | From $6.50 |
| 10 mL vial | The everyday size for regular use | From $10.50 |
| 30 mL bottle | The lowest cost per mL | From $18.95 |
Each size comes singly or in packs of 3, 5, 10, 25 and 100, and the price per vial drops at each step. If you also need syringes, the reconstitution kits pair vials with sealed insulin syringes.
Questions about buying bac water
Do CVS and Walgreens sell bac water?
They can supply it against a prescription. It is not stocked on the shelf, so a pharmacist orders and dispenses it.
Is bac water the same as sterile water?
No. Both are sterile water, but bac water adds 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which keeps bacteria from growing in the vial between draws. Plain sterile water has no preservative and is single-use.
How fast can I get bac water?
From Direct Bac Water, orders placed before 1 pm Eastern on a business day ship that day. With UPS Next Day Air that means delivery the next business day.
How should bac water be stored?
As the label states. The FDA-listed bacteriostatic water labels specify room temperature, 20 to 25 °C (68 to 77 °F).
Sold for laboratory research and the reconstitution of legal, physician-prescribed medications only.
