Which bacteriostatic water size should you choose?

All Direct Bac Water vials hold the same thing: sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol (9 mg/mL), the preservative that lets one multiple-dose vial be drawn from repeatedly. What changes is the volume, and with it the price per mL and how much is left unused. Once a vial's stopper is punctured, USP <797> gives it 28 days, so the best size is the one whose contents get used inside that window.

Generic or Hospira?

Hospira Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP is the branded vial made by Hospira, Inc. (a Pfizer company): a 30 mL multiple-dose vial with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Direct Bac Water's generic vials carry the same 0.9% benzyl alcohol at a lower price per mL, and lot 260121 measured 0.912% in independent testing (lab results). Choose Hospira when the brand itself matters; choose generic for the lowest cost.

Packs and bulk pricing

Every size is sold as a single vial or in packs, and the price per vial falls as the pack grows: the 30 mL vial runs from $18.95 for one to $11.49 a vial in a 100-pack. Full pack prices are on bac water prices and bulk bac water.

Bacteriostatic water: questions

What is the difference between the 3 mL, 10 mL and 30 mL vials?

Only the volume. All three contain sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Larger vials cost less per mL; smaller vials leave less unused once opened.

Is Hospira better than generic bacteriostatic water?

Both contain 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Hospira is the branded product made by Hospira, Inc.; the generic vials cost less per mL.

How long does a vial last once opened?

28 days from first puncture under USP <797>, unless the manufacturer says otherwise, and never past the printed expiry date.

Does bacteriostatic water need to be refrigerated?

No. Its label gives a storage range of 20 to 25 °C (68 to 77 °F), controlled room temperature.
